Week of Science Fiction fun at the 'Worm:
Monday 20th - Monday 27th August

 

JinShaThis week, Chengdu plays host to an extremely unusual event - the 2007 International Science Fiction/Fantasy Conference!

We'll be celebrating the event in various ways throughout this week at The Bookworm. See below!!

First up, we bring you daily projections of Sci-fi short films in Chinese with English subtitles, directed and produced by Chinese film-art students. Join the producers and directors of the Chinese short films and talk about their work.

Tuesday 7.30pm showing:
Green bean cake - a Guangzhou high school students low budget production (24min)
Screaming BeiHong - Beijing Aviation University students production (32min)

Wednesday  7.30pm showing:
Five o'clock - University students' production (42 min)
Parapax - Beijing University production (58min)

Chinese films followed by a projection of sci-fi movies in English with Chinese subtitles.  Friday 24th August 7pm:
To celebrate the opening of the Science Fiction conference, attendees from the event will be converging on The Bookworm!! Come along to meet and mingle with sci-fi authors, special guests and enthusiasts. Hosted by the conference organisers, there will also be an opportunity for Q&A with some of the conference's leading lights. May the force be with you.

Kid's club - after the usual reading and activities we'll show a children's sci-fi animated film.

Go wild at what may be your only opportunity ever to dress up as Dr Spock or Aldous Huxley (?) in Chengdu without being branded a nutter. Well, perhaps we can't guarantee that... Anyway, come along for The Bookworm's first ever Science Fiction Fancy Dress Party.
Obviously, great prizes are in store for the most outlandish costumes.

Sunday 26th August 7.30pm
Science fiction classics in English with Chinese subtitles.


The whole week will be marked by special sci-fi cocktails and space dishes. Check our special menu. Anyone wearing a costume during this week will be awarded a sci-fi drink.

Join Lauren from EtonHouse School for this week's special sci-fi related session! It's a surprise but be ready to free your imagination and creative talents.

All the materials required will be provided by the Bookworm. Activities are suitable for kids aged 3-7. 30 RMB per child.  

After the kid's club we'll show a children's sci-fi animated film Monsters Inc. starting at 12pm.

Chinese corner 7.30pm - The theme for this corner is Jiuzhai Valley and stories related to it. Join in for free with chinese teachers' assistance to boost your progress.
