Chinese Lessons: Five Classmates and a Story of New China
A Book talk by John Pomfret
John will talk about his new book which recounts the lives of his former classmates in the Nanjing University History Class of 1982. As one of the first American students to live and study with Chinese after the revolution, Pomfret saw the country as few foreigners had. Pomfret uses the lives of his classmates as a vehicle for telling China's story, one of the most tumultuous the modern world has ever known. By weaving his classmates’ lives into an extraordinary chronicle of the past forty years of China’s reinvention, he reveals the new China as it has never been seen before.

This is Nathan Gray's account of his 4,000-kilometre trek along the largest man-made structure ever built. His story is remarkable, uncovering the Wall's profound history and revealing insights into China's geopolitical climate, as he shares his personal journey of physical, mental and emotional triumph.

French's (North Korea: The Paranoid Peninsula
) brand new book explores the life and times of this fascinating gent, illustrating through his meticulous research the relevance today of Crow's analysis of the Chinese market and business culture in Asia. A must for anyone with an interest in the rise of China as a dominant economic power, Carl Crow... is a lively, entertaining and accomplished book.
'With the latest gang of get-rich-quick hucksters, hustlers and fools still washing up thick on the muddy banks of Shanghai, there could be no better timing for this lively, anecdote-rich account of the life of Carl Crow, who saw the whole thing unfold the last go round.' Peter S Goodman, The Washington Post
